Data vs Wi-Fi: Which is better?
You can’t deny that we rely heavily on the internet to perform our daily tasks these days. Communication, checking emails and entertainment are some of the things that we can’t enjoy without internet.
We can connect ourselves to the internet by Wi-Fi connection or getting a data plan like Digi’s unlimited internet plan in Malaysia.
The question is: data or Wi-Fi, which is better?
What’s the difference between data and Wi-Fi?
Cellular data is offered by mobile carriers like Digi and Wi-Fi is usually offered and set up by Internet Service Providers (ISPs). You can travel anywhere and still connect to the internet with data but with Wi-Fi, you have to stick to a location.
Which is faster?
Wi-Fi used to be a lot faster than a data connection in the past. However, times have changed and cellular data has caught up to the speed of Wi-Fi. Depending on your location, cellular may sometimes be faster than Wi-Fi.
Which lasts longer?
People tend to believe that data connection drains our battery much faster than Wi-Fi, but that’s not always the case. We feel Wi-Fi is faster and lasts longer because we are close to our Wi-Fi router when we use it. Data connection reduces our battery faster because there’s often a distance between us and a cellular tower.
Which is more stable?
An internet’s signal strength depends on the number of people connected to the network and the speed of the internet. The more people use the internet, the weaker the connection gets. Although these factors affect both cellular data and Wi-Fi, data seems to be better at balancing and supplying speed to our phones.
Wi-Fi and data have their own advantages and disadvantages, and things aren’t always black and white. At the end of the day, just use whichever works best for you.
